New GST Rule: The Government of India has announced major changes in the GST system in September 2025.Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this reform in his speech from the Red Fort on 15 August 2025.Now this new GST rule is going to be implemented from 22 September 2025.The biggest benefit will be to the common consumers because many essential items will start getting at half the price.
Big change in GST rates
The first GST had four rates - 5%, 12%, 18%and 28%.By making them simple, now only two main rates have been kept - besides a new tax slab of 40% has been created for luxury and sin goods.
Which items reduced tax?
The new system has reduced tax on many everyday things.Now these goods will be available only at 5% GST rate: Apart from this, 0% tax has been kept on life saving medicines, grains, vegetables and other basic foods.
Traders get the facility
The new GST rules have also brought relief for traders and small businessmen.
New rate on luxury goods
Luxury and Sin Goods (such as tobacco, cigarette, pan masala, gutkha, ared drinks and high-end cars) will now be charged 40% GST.Earlier these were 28% GST and separate cess.The new rate will make the tax structure easier.
